Basic Info
Name:Jealous
Bio
☆ Character: Jealous
☆ Series: Death Note
☆ Character Age: n/a
☆ Special Abilities/Powers: He's one of the grim reapers... so other than the nerfed/nullified lifespan/name viewing ability... uh... he can't be killed? He forgets he even has wings, most of the time... and isn't very skilled at using them, or at much of anything else, for that matter.
☆Timeline: Just after he died in the series, having written down the name of Misa's attacker...
☆ Character's Personality: He's a sweetheart. Very childlike, in what makes him happy and amuses him... he's none too bright, scoring only a three out of ten on the intelligence line in his data, in the Death Note manga guidebook... and as evidenced, will ignore warnings that're for his own good, to try to help someone he cares about. He's patient, shy, and on the clumsy side, seeing as how he's built like a patchwork rag doll, a cracked and broken mess held together by stitches... and his curiosity would probably lead him to trouble, if he weren't so timid.
☆ Character's Background: He's a shinigami -- a grim reaper, who lives to write down human names in his notebook, to take their lifespans for himself... but that doesn't mean he has to like doing so, or that he can't do it only as little as he can get away with, to stay alive. Not being bold enough to want to go near some of the other, scarier-looking reapers, and not liking being picked on by some of them for only having one eye, or terrible handwriting (with only stubby little clumsy misshapen excuses for digits on each hand, it certainly suffers!) or being so tiny, or oddly kind... or for appreciating humans... he tends to stay solitary, making few friends even in the reapers' realm, and spends most of his time simply watching the portals to the humans' world to pass the time and amuse himself. Tragically, this is ultimately what led to his death in the series, as he came to admire a young human girl, developing a crush on her. He admired her strengths, perhaps seeing in her, something he wished for, himself... the ability to cope, to pick up the pieces when life had fallen apart, and have the will to succeed against all odds.

The reapers, however, are under a strict set of rules by which they must operate, when it comes to any interactions with humans and the human world... few are revealed during the course of the series, and fewer still are confirmed as fact, but one rule was made abundantly clear. Reapers are never to end a human life, in order to save another. The punishment for such an act... is certain death.

As Jealous watched the human girl he'd become so fond of, the one who had unwittingly stolen his little patchwork heart, he saw a scene play out that was set to spell her death... and, unable to resist, caring enough for her that he ignored the warnings not to do so from Rem, one of his few friends, who stood behind him, watching as he picked up his pen and notebook... he wrote the name of the girl's attacker, ending the man's life, and his own, in the process.

All that remained was a pile of dust, his pen, and his notebook...

☆ Third Person Sample: He sat, crouched, in the corner of the stairwell, looking down into the cafeteria, his small, huddled form going unnoticed by passers-by, as he didn't move, and probably more closely resembled someone's discarded toy than a fellow resident.

His single, gold-hued eye was focused on the people below, taking in their appearances, their actions... how they went about their own business, or involved themselves with others. How one of them, sitting across from another, reached over after diverting the other's attention, and dumped salt into what was probably mashed potatoes. A prank, he supposed. How a female paused, holding her tray closer to herself and taking a hesitant half-step back, to let a zombie nurse shuffle past, before going on her way cautiously. How a younger male ran through the area, heedless of the others who dodged to avoid being run into by him in his careless rush.

His breath caught in his throat when he caught sight of a small female figure in a dress, his expression changing subtly to one of... hope? ...which faded again as she turned and he saw her face. It wasn't the one he was looking for, and his heart sank, but aside from a small sigh that escaped his stitched-together lips, he didn't make a sound. He looked over the other people there again, resuming his watch, never saying a word.

☆ First Person Sample: I found a corner to sit in, where I can see people. There's a lot of them here... not as much as in the human world, but I don't think this is the human world... it's always night here, and the people here can see me. I've seen a few that aren't humans, too... but they don't look like other reapers. Well, some of them do, but they don't look right. And they ignore me.

Rem told me not to write that man's name... but I did anyway.

Rem was always really smart. She knew when I didn't understand something, and she'd explain it for me so I did... I should have listened to her. But then she would have died...

Misa.

I wrote down his name, so she wouldn't be killed... and I died instead. I saw my hands fall apart... and then my arms... and my knees... but I saw Misa was alive.

That's the last I remembered... and then I woke up here.

I don't know where humans go when they die... and I never thought about where reapers go when they die, either. But if I died... I'm sure I died... that means this is what humans call an after-life? ....so these other people... they must be dead too.

I want to see her again, so I've been watching... but I hope she isn't here. It would mean she's dead too.

I don't know what to do now...
